I did get that one noted in the survey, just forgot to respond. Thanks for helping out.

Hi Gary,

Here’s another 1894 short rifle on GB.  Was wondering if you have it in your survey.

Unfortunately, the seller does not disclose the complete serial number.

Hi Gary,

I came across this one on Gunbroker.  Have it in your survey?  It also has the unusual patent date barrel marking.

You probably already have these: ser#214893, .30 cal., 24″ r.b., extra lite,  takedown, 4 ctg. mag. ramp fr. Lyman site, 9/38 fore end, p.g., plain trig. checkered, xxx wood stk., rubber s.g.b., oil finish, shipped Ap18 ’04.  the second one is ser#282279 in cal. 25-35, 24″ r.b., xtra lite, takedown, 4 ctg. mag., ramp fr. site, 9 3/8 fore end, p.g., checkered ,x wood stock but looks like xxx, rubber s.g.b., oil fin. plain trig., shipped Nov. 29 ’05. The rear site is a 3 leaf in very strange configuration as discussed earlier in another post.

That’s a new one I hadn’t come across. Its a great looking little rifle, and fairly scarce. I will have to watch that one to see if it sells cheap, considering its condition.

And weren’t the patent date errors usually found on the carbines and round barrel ELW’s? I will have to look for the thread on this subject.

Thanks Don.

Thanks Harry, I didn’t have 214893. The other one I had logged from previous discussions, I believe.

Hi Gary,

Glad to add one to the survey.  Regarding the patent date marking, the August 21, 1894 date is correct.  It’s just stamped on a line by itself on the top barrel flat.  This is an instance when the patent date was omitted from the top tang and moved to the barrel markings.  However, the barrel that was used was of the older style marking that did not include the patent date, so it was added in a one-liner on the top barrel flat.  A bit unusual.

Thanks for clearing that up. Without putting much thought into it, I was thinking you meant the error dates. Yes, the position of the marking is strange. I think I remember hearing about that in the past, but it was very much buried in my small memory bank. Good stuff!

That’s a new one, and a classic example of how a large number of the ELW Deluxe ’94s were configured. The third one from the bottom in my signature pic is the same.

Thank you….

And here is another one.  This one with an octagon barrel, originated from the same collection as the other one, Senator Frederic C Walcott:  https://live.amoskeagauction.com/m/lot-details/index/catalog/28/lot/18200?url=%2Fm%2Fview-auctions%2Fcatalog%2Fid%2F28

That’s a more interesting one, with the ELW octagon barrel and 3/4 mag. The I checkered plain stock is a nice, less common feature too.

New to the survey ……. thanks.

Hi Gary,

Here’s another one listed in GI.  Serial number 429777.

A new entry as well. Wish the pics were better as I think its a nicer rifle than what the pics show. Thank you.

And here’s yet another example from that same auction.  No 366663.

Another new one to survey. That’s a great looking deluxe w/ the crescent butt. Seems like most of these sold cheap too.

Thank you.

Pertaining to the three I presented from that recent auction, what do you think they each should be worth, if you think one or more sold cheaply?  I don’t know how much of a premium a short rifle brings, and also what any special order features add to the valuation.
