Hi Gary,Here’s another for the survey. I really like this one. Too bad the sights were swapped.

I hadn’t seen that one yet. Yes, very interesting rifle. Neat that it letters with fancy stock, although I’ve seen some takedowns that have that nice of wood without the notation.

Yes, neat rifle. I like the combination of features. Interesting that he doesn’t promote the short rifle aspect in his title or description.

There’s four things I like here – the half round barrel, the DST’s, the fact that it letters and that he started it at a penny and is just letting it run. Oh, I actually like his rating of he refinish job – honest.
Hey Gary,
This one justed popped up on GI today. I agree with the seller about the refinish but still a legit 1894 shorty.

That’s number 700, thanks Don. It’s a nice configuration but has had some help along the way.
Also, one of those rifles clearly showing serial number applied in 1900 in the letter but somehow it was made three years before the serial number was applied…….. but wait…. don’t you need a serial number to determine a date? ……… another conundrum that I will certainly lose sleep over tonight.

Woody,
A 20-inch barrel with a full-length magazine was standard for all Model 1894/94 SRCs. The survey Gary is conducting covers all of the “Rifle” variations, which were standard with a 26-inch barrel. I on the other hand, am surveying all Model 1894/94 variations that are in the 354000 – 2600011 serial number range.

Hey Gary,
Found this one on GI. Do you have this one in your survey? Cool configuration but lacking condition.

Yes, I had that one already. I agree, it’s a great set-up, and “Fancy Stock” again …… this time in a ’94. That might be a first for me (for a ’94 in a letter, but I can’t recall). I’ve seen some takedowns with this grade of wood & no notation, or out of the letterable range. It just seemed to be part of the deal when you ordered a TD.

Gary –
I was going through some factory letters I have – for rifles I let go quite a while ago. I ran across this one. It sounds like a really desirable rifle based on the features. But I vaguely recall there was some condition issues. I seem to recall it was undersanded (quite noticeably) at the tangs. This would explain why the rifle didn’t make it long-term here. Did you have this one?
Hey Gary,
Do you have these in your survey? I talked to the seller about the 38-55 and it has the long wood forearm. The deluxe looks to be a pretty rare configuration–a shame it has the extra holes in the receiver.

Yes Don, I had these entered in the survey. Definitely sad that the deluxe has been drilled, It’s a great configuration. The 38-55 is a good looking rifle too, although I like the short wood versions better.
