I think they are 10-20% under what I would expect, even considering the premium, shipping and transfer. Maybe just another sign that the prices are depressed. The first one was probably the closest to what its worth. The semi-deluxe octagon was the best deal in my opinion. The last one would have been tempting as well at that price. All of them are nice little rifles.
Just speaking for the 1894 short rifles and my survey findings: An ELW octagon barrel is a scarce feature (~12%) as most were round. The 3/4 mags on the last two are fairly rare as well (only about 11%). On the last one, it just has a nice look to it with the crescent butt (around 15%) and the 3/4 mag. Most all of the ’94 ELW’s were shotgun butts.

My take on these three is that they probably all sold for less than they really are worth, but maybe the first one (Lot 15) might have sold for less under what really worth than the other two. That’s because condition holds value, and this was proven in this auction. The second one presented has some pitting and less bluing, and the third one has less bluing than the first. Over time, the first one will hold value better. Too bad it didn’t have a half round half octagon barrel and/or wasn’t chambered in .38-55 or .32-40.
Hi Gary,
I found another on GB. Zooming in on the photo, it looks like serial# 47582.

Chuck,
Unless the barrel is at least 26-inches long (standard length), it is correctly classed as a “Short” rifle.
Bert
Other than the shorter barrel do these have any of the other features of a short rifle, like the shorter forearm? I know it was a special order.

Hi Chuck
In my survey, the 24″ rifles all have the normal length fore-arm. Its when we get down to the 22″ lengths that we start to see the short fore-arm at approx. 82% of the pool.
And to add to Bert’s comment, there were no “short rifles” cataloged so to me its just a collectors term. For the purposes of my survey, anything under the standard length has been included, including the ELW versions.

This particular one does not letter correctly, so I wont be adding it. It has a later R&R, but still has some anomalies. I do like the configuration though. It would make a cool shooter.
