Bert,
In your research, are there flat bands with saddle rings? A local dealer has one that I’ve looked at but some things didn’t seem to add up. The receiver has an expected gray/ silver patina, but the saddle ring and post are deep blue. Perhaps the ring has been replaced? For the receiver to reach that patina one would expect the rifle to have been carried and used a lot, but there is a complete lack of ring rub markings on the receiver and the deep blue ring make it appear to have been added recently. The barrel and magazine tube are also much bluer than the receiver, while the flat band is more gray/ sliver like the receiver. The mismatched wear and patina caused me to steer away from this one.
Thanks,
Jeff

Interesting… that is the earliest serial number with a non-slotted magazine tube cap.
Total Flat-bands in the survey now at 1,865.
Thanks for participating in the survey,

Hello Mike,
I already had serial number 1411682 in the survey. It was manufactured in early February, 1947. More than likely, it has a “46” marked barrel.

Bert-
Do you have 1503293? I suspect you do but if not I’ll get the details at another time.

I do not have it in the survey … yet.

I’ll go take a closer look. If it follows me home it’s all (or at least partly) you fault.
