Hello,I just obtained my very first Winchester lever action carbine and I love it! It has a flat upper band.
1. Serial number: 1399664
2. Caliber: 30 W.C.F.
3. Hammer: checkered
4. Type 2 frame
5. Magazine cap has a single slot
6. Barrel date: 46
(My other Winchester rifles are a Model 1907, a Model of 1917, two M1 (Garand) Rifles, and an M1 Carbine).
Thanks for posting the information. The survey now stands at 1,538 verified Flat Band Carbines.

Don,
That 25-35 WCF is the highest serial numbered Flat Band now in my survey. I was somewhat surprised by it, but it fell right in the middle of a small batch of other 25-35s that I have surveyed (non flat bands).
Thanks,

Hi Bert,
Here’s a few more for your flat band survey. Not sure if you have some of these already.
Don
Don,
That 3-gun set is relatively a newly assembled set, as I had the 25-35 previously listed, but not the 32 WS or 30 WCF. Of the 5 you found, I had three listed in the survey. I will send you a copy of the survey later today for reference purposes.

Welcome, David. Thanks for posting, don’t be a stranger!

I’m late to the party here and I’m not familiar with the terminology but here’s a flat band I just acquired:
Serial # 1467259
.30 WCF
Type 3
Slotted mag tube
Serrated hammer (cuts run east to west but not north to south)
Not sure where to look for the barrel date.
Any info on this one would be appreciated.

The serial number indicates that it was manufactured late in the year 1947. The serrated hammer and slotted mag tube cap are normal. A type 3 receiver frame is a bit early. Based on my research survey results, the type 3 receiver frame was not introduced until 1948.
To view the barrel date, you will need to remove the magazine tube and forend stock. The 2-digit year number is stamped on the bottom of the barrel in the concave milled area right next to the receiver frame. It should be a “47”.

Bert, I have a flat band #1446276, 25-35 WCF, slotted cap, type 2 receiver and serrated hammer. I have not removed the forearm so don’t know the date.

Bill,
Your Flat-band was manufactured in 1947, and will undoubtedly have a “47” marked barrel.
Thanks for participating in the survey,
