Thanks so much Charlie.  I saw that gun out of LA.  Glad that it worked out for you.  It is a 1941 vintage rifle.

If you need another Model 61 for your survey, I have my dad’s we grew up with many decades ago.

1.  SN 224800  (No “A”)

2.  Has grooved receiver

3.  Round barrel

4.  22 S,L,LR marked

5.  Does NOT have upper tang drilled and tapped for two screws

6.  Does NOT have “W” below SN

7.  Has steel checkered buttplate

Its been in the family for many years and will be passed on to the next generation.   From what I see it was produced in 1956 and I believe that’s when my dad purchased it.   Hope this helps.

Hello Scott,

That is a new rifle for the survey.  It was actually manufactured during 1955 so a 1956 purchase date if very possible.

Thanks

Michael

Thanks so much Kevin.  I had not seen that auction.  It is definitely a new entry.  And in rough shape as you say.

Michael,

What is the highest serial # in the 61 survey. I know this is a 63 vintage but just wondering how close to the end of production it is.

Erin,

I have consistent SN’s into 349272.  Then a gap to 357102, 372380, and then 372932.  Were these parts receivers that were eventually used?  I have no idea but the gaps aer definitely irregular.
