I’m in South Africa and bought my Model 61 some 30 yrs ago off a deceased estate. The butt has the name W. Smith stamped on it.

It has serial number 13568 (manufactured 1936), round barrel, has two screw holes sans screws on the tang for the peep sight. 

Butt plate is chequered steel, chambered for .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle.

Thanks so much for reaching out and adding your rifle into my survey of the Model 61’s.  According to the serial number the rifle was actually manufactured during 1934.  Can you tell me please if the end of the magazine has a reinforcing collar on it as in the attached image?  The muzzle face should be cut perfectly flat as opposed to being rounded or “crowned.”

It has the reinforcing collar and also the flat muzzle face. Battling to find how to post pics.

Yes sir. I had been looking for that particular configuration for quite a long time. I’ve owned a long wood version but ended up selling it as I really like the shorter slides better. 

  

Congratulations on finding what you were looking for.  I have 3 in the same configuration.  They are nice for sure.
