Here is another I “rescued” from the “Needs Minor Repair” rack at my LGS (Large chip in stock at the upper tang):
Serial #36752 (1938)
Round Barrel
”—.22 S. L. OR L.R.—“
Top Tang w/two screw holes
NO “W” below serial #
Checkered Steel Buttplate
NO grooves on receiver for scope
Flat Muzzle Face
NO magazine collar
I’ll add . . . .
It has the early, SHORT, Flat-bottom, 11-ring pump handle.

The large chip missing from the stock appears to be a problem that is fairly common on Model 61’s . I have seen it many times. The muzzle on yours should be cut perfectly flat.

Michael,
picked up a Model 61 today at a local auction:
Serial #76661
Octagon barrel
.22 LONG R.
Tang is not tapped
No W
Checkered steel butt plate
Non grooved receiver
Flat muzzle face
Hopefully this is a new rifle for the survey.
It is in fact a new addition to my data. I now have 10,510 rifles cataloged and have begun doing statistical work and building a reference website that with distill all the info I have gathered. Thanks so much for the help. I might have it up by summers end if fly fishing does not interfere too much!
The last receiver in the polishing room in 1946 was 76700. Most likely your rifle was fully assembled in early 1947.
