…need to replace an extractor on an 1876 rifle.  I know the steps to get the breechbolt removed.  The tricky part may be removing (knocking out) the extractor retaining pin.  I assume…

…from sliding out.  If possible I would like to re-use the pin.  Any recommendations?

I believe the process would be the same for 1866, 1873 or 1876 rifles.  Not sure about the later ones.

…need an extractor for an 1876 rifle.  Winchester Bob is out.

…if a part says "out" does that mean he will make it again at some point?   I need an 1876 extractor.

Is it worth emailing him, or will that just annoy him?

It reminds me about the confusion that often occurs with the .40-60.  There's the .40-60 WCF that was chambered in the M1876 Winchester, Whitney-Kennedy rifles and others.  The Marlin .40-60 version chambered in the M1881 was interchangeable with the M1876 Winchester. …

There's an amazing number of cartridges that are covered by approximate three case lengths.

Not an inclusive list:

The Winchester M1876 series (all of these were available in the Whitney-Kennedy):

.40-60, .45-60, .45-75 and .50-95

The Winchester M1886 series (all of…

…-100, .50-110

(.the .33 WCF is an outlier).

The Colt Lightning Express rifle chambered two different case length cartridges.  From the M1876 Winchester offering, the Lightning Express rifle came in .45-60 and .50-95.  From the M1886 series, the Lightning Express rifle came in .38-56

…obsolete cartridges is a hobby of mine.  I recently took on the old .40-60 WCF using black powder for use in an original Winchester Model 1876 rifle.

I had some resized WW 45-70 brass in my stash that I got from Buffalo Arms years ago.  I recently found some Jamison .40-60 brass so

…video.  It's a lost art being able to work on these set triggers.

I can't imagine how hard it would be to work on an 1876 set trigger since the lower tang is integral with the receiver.  On a complete gun you would have the barrel as well.

Also, I seem to recall that…

…most of the set trigger parts are the same for 1873 and 1876.  Obviously not hammer, but most of the "fiddly bits."  I also recall that some of these parts changed from 1st to 2nd generation.  I have no clue

Curious to know did your research on the 1876s come up with many British Proofed "Short Rifles" in the 40-60 WCF caliber? I didn't mention that it has a "Plain Trigger", full magazine, and what…

This 1876 advertisement in Forest & Stream shows the "tab" sticking down...as well as Winchester's own 1875 catalog.

So why would Uberti and
