Had you already seen this one?
Thanks, Kevin
Hello Kevin,
Yes, I did see this rifle in the auction. It is in a small group of identical rifles. SN 115710,115711, 115720, 115722, and now 115726. 1949 DOM.
Thanks much

37430 in 22 WRF. The barrel blue looks suspect to me, but I am far from an expert on these.

The barrel bluing does look a bit funky to me also. The white dot front sight is not original and the rear sight elevator has apparently never been moved. I have 62 sampled rifles between SN 35709 and 37433 (an interval of 1724 rifles) in my survey and 62% of them are OB .22 WRF configurations.
Thanks

Twobit after posting this I read through this whole post and didn’t see another rifle in the 80,000 range. You must be hiding them somewhere! I’m getting conflicting numbers on date of manufacture anywhere from 46-48 when I search multiple data bases.
Hi Twobit,
#76842 .22LR with octagon barrel is up for auction, is that one on your list?
I did not see it on the fake list, is it legit?
Thanks,

Hi Michael,
I was told it was listed on Gunbroker but I didn’t see it, sorry.

1. “213547” serial number
2. “Round” 24″bbl.
3. “.22 S.L. OR L.R.” on barrel for chamber designation
4. “No” tang D&T’s
5. “No” small w beneath serial number
6. N/A
7. “Checkered Steel” butt pad, slotted head screws
8. “No” on the grooved receiver
Bought it this morning, always wanted one, it’s in fantastic shape.
From what I can tell looking around it’s probably a 1955 built rifle?

Hello Mike,
Based on the serial number your rifle was manufactured during 1954. The receiver tops began to be grooved starting near SN 215200.

Michael, I picked up a 61 .22Mag today at a yard sale…331405 with an A underneath
22 WIN. MAG. R.F.
Round 24″ bbl.
Grooved (since magnums came late, I assume they are all grooved?)
Plastic butt plate, slotted screws clocked vertically.
Thanks so much for passing on the information about your new rifle. Yes the magnums were all grooved. Based on the serial number it was manufactured during 1962.
Have fun shooting

Thanks Kevin. I will take a look. All 28 are new additions to the survey! Someone is getting rid of a big .22 cal collection.

Just came across this while doing research on the rifle that was originally my grandfather’s.
Winchester Model 61 “Magnum” .22 WIN. MAG. R.F.
Serial Num: 336307 does have an “A” stamped below the serial number.
It’s in great shape as my grandaddy passed in 1970 and I know it wasn’t fired since well before that. He wasn’t a hunter or shooter that I know of, and have a feeling he bought this along with a Browning SA-22, S&W Chief’s Special .38, and Baby Browing .25 ACP as part of one of his notorious shopping sprees.
Don’t seem to be able to upload pics, but happy to do so if someone will advise on how to do that. I am only posting as a guest at this point.
Would also love to have some estimate of the value of this gun.
Thanks
Scott

Hello Scott,
Your grandfathers rifle was manufactured during 1962, the last year that the Model 61 was offered by Winchester. There were about 13,000 More rifles made after yours. Thanks for the information.
