Hello Joe

I am on the road and my computer cratered.  I will get back in the next few days after some shopping.

Hello there…. I have the following Model 61

100451

round barrel

22 S.L. or LR

Upper tang not drilled

No W below serial number

Butt plate is checkered with Winchester logo.  Can’t tell if it is steel or plastic

Smooth receiver

I’m pretty sure it is from the 1940’s.  It is in good shape and still shoots great.  Killed a few squirrels this weekend.  Bluing is heavily faded.

Hello Joe,

Based on the serial number the rifle was manufactured during 1948.  The butt plate should be a simple checkered steel with no Winchester logo on it.  Thanks for adding your rifle into my survey.

Thanks so much for the early Christmas present of the data on your rifles.  They are all new rifles for the survey and I have entered them.  Do SN 52131 and 68151 have a “W” stamped about 1.5 inches below the serial numbers?

Thanks again

Michael

Thanks for your response.

I did miss the ‘W’ on #52131

#68151 does not have the ‘W’

Thanks so much Brad.  That is a 1953 vintage rifle.  I assume it is not counter bored?

Michael,

Your assumption is correct, it is not counter bored, it’s a “straight thru” model.

Can I send you photos? I want to see what the value is, or perhaps you do not need photos. I tried the image link but it is not user friendly.

Hello,

I did not get that rifle.  I am traveling in New Zealand for another month so my internet time is a but restricted.  If you could pass it along I would appreciate it.

Thanks.
