It is a 32 W.S. and I also had it previously documented in the survey. It was manufactured in May 1947.

For Bert – Is there a current summary of the 94 flat band survey? If so, where may I find it?
The survey document is now (68) total pages in length, which is not readily conducive to publish on the internet.
As of today, I have documented 2,501 Flat-band Carbines. The caliber breakdown is as follows;
1. 30 WCF = 1,573 (62.9%)
2. 32 W.S. = 705 (28.2%)
3. 25-35 WCF = 223 (8.9%)
Based on my extrapolation tables, the total Flat-band Carbine production was approximately 142,350 guns.

For Bert – Here is a flat band that I just purchased. Info for your survey below. I don’t know if you have this one or not.
I purchased it in Montana. Engraved on the link and on the side of the lever is “MT29 52”. I presume this was a rifle issued to a MT state employee such as a highway patrol, game warden, prison guard, etc. Any ideas on this engraving or how to research it better from my end?
Thanks for all of your work on Winchesters!
1. Serial number: 1467641
2. Caliber: 25-35
3. Hammer type: Serrated
4. Frame type: 2
5. Magazine tube type: slotted
6. Barrel date: Not known at this time

The serial number indicates that it was manufactured late in the year 1947 (November or December).
The 25-35 caliber very strongly suggests that it was not a highway patrol, game warden, prison guard, etc. issued gun. Based on my research, 99+% of all the Government/State purchased Model 94s were .30 caliber.

Hello Fred,
Based on the serial numbers on both of your Flat-band Carbines, they should both have a Type 3 receiver frame. The Type 2 receiver frames were phased out in the 1472300 – 1473000 serial number range. The radius of the transition from the upper tang to the receiver frame is much sharper (pronounced) on the Type 3 versus the Type 2 (see the pictures below).

Gus,
February 1947. It most likely has a “46” date stamped barrel.

Bert,Thank you for the prompt reply. Was the front sight’s hood standard on this model rifle? Mine is missing, although the sight has the milled slots for one.
Thanks,
Gus
Yes, a front sight hood was standard on all Model 94 Carbines manufactured after the year 1932. It is the most frequent item found missing/removed.
