Hello Bert,Thanks for sharing your knowledge on these guns. Â
I just procured a Winchester Stainless Marine 12GA., with serial no. of L18954xx.There is no indication whether this is a Model 1200 or 1300…
Would you know the approx. date of manuf and what model it would be, please?
Thank you Sir in advance! Â
Jim,
The S/N indicates that it is a Model 1200 manufactured in the year 1985.

First off, my apologies of this old thread revival.Â
I recently received my dad’s 12GA 1200. SN L1462889.
I’ve read the entire thread and I’m happy to see that my “personal dating” system of this one seems to be in alignment with previous posts. I have memories of him keeping it loaded under the ledge of his water bed in 1985ish.
I’d greatly appreciate someone, perhaps Bert, giving a quasi-confirmation.
Thanks!Â

Per the reference I have, your Model 1200 was manufactured in the year 1983.

I have to correct my Post 9. This was made early in my Model 1200 study, and I got it wrong.
Evan Lall in Post No 1 showed a Model 1200 RIOT gun, introduced in 1965, and this is indeed 1965 manufacture, Further its serial Number was stamped in September 1964 (from the Stamping Foreman’s notebook) Its Factory Number was G120007. All were marked CYL bore, but later it was changed to RIOT
Turkey 53, Post 7 is correct – the Sears Model 200 is indeed the same mechanically as the Model 1200 and does have a P symbol. I can probably tell you more about if I had photos and a serial number.Â
Robert R, Post 17, your # L676021 was stamped on October 08, 1971. Production time from stamping to boxing was six to 8 weeks, so finishing would be late November/Early December 1971, and this is probably early 1972 manufacture.
Shavess, Post 19, your Model 1200 # 677133 was stamped on October 11 1971. Without photos for reference this is probably early 1972 manufacture.
I am still finalizing my database and I am happy to provide an estimate of manufacture year provided you send photos. My email is faster for replies as I do not go on Forum often. Â

Wow! Talk about not reading the fine print. I did not realise there were five pages until Post 110 was uploaded. I do not have time to do the five pages today but will get back to them. As I noted in post 110, I am finalizing my data base which I started in 2009, but it has been hard as I rely on sellers either stating the Serial Number or showing a photo, but I am close to completing it, and in some cases I may be out by a year, but thats all, and I will say so. Your photos may be the clincher for a particular year.
I am still analysing the data and collecting more every two months, so I would greatly appreciate serial number/year enquiries for the Model 1200 (or the Model 1400 series) to be sent to my email [email protected] with good photos including the serial number, the barrel address and the Butt Plate/Pad. I can do the Model 120, 140, 1300 1400 and 1500, as well as the Models 2200 and 2400. Â
Sincerely
Keith
