Bert,

One more please L1319362, is steel preferred over stainless for the barrel and do you have an approx value estimate these sell for?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,

Late 1981. The “steel” versus “stainless” steel is a person preference. For those that hunt in wet nasty environments, the stainless steel barrel is probably preferred. If you hunt upland game, the blued steel barrel is nicer (in my opinion).

Model 1200 shotguns are very seldom worth more than $250, especially in used condition.

Bud,

No idea, as there are no published numbers for the early production years. All that can be determined is that it is a pre-GCA 1968 gun.

Bert, to help with the Winchester Model 1200 and DOM issue based on serial numbers with the L prefix, my model 1200 with SN L 837590 was new and in its box in 1975.

I just received 2 shotguns. One is a model 37 4/10 3in and the other is a model 1200 with a serial number of 133196 I’m assuming that based on other posts Im looking at pre1964 maybe… any guesses.

Winchester introduced the Model 1200 in the year 1964, so it is not possible for it to be a “pre-1964”. It is my understanding that serialization began at 100000.

Anyone know where to get info on the Model 1200’s marketed and sold under the Sears Model 200? I have one, SN 26605, with MOD 273.2250 on the barrel. Thank you.

Hello,

I’m new to the group. I recently purchased a 1200 with SN 375811. Does your reference narrow this one down?

Greetings! I have recently received a Winchester Model 1200 12 gauge with a serial number of L119884. I was curious about the relative age of this shotgun. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Robert,

The “L” prefix on the serial number indicates that it was manufactured after the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968 was enacted into law.  I suspect that you missed one digit in the serial number (it should have seven numerals vice six).

Robert,

Your Model 1200 was manufactured in the year 1978.

John,

There are no published DOM lists for the time period (serial number range) you are asking about.  All I can say with certainty is “sometime after November 1968 and before December 1975”.
