OfflineRob,
Thanks for sharing your information, you have a great looking Model 56 and a new entry in the survey! Serial #2660 was made in 1926 and is a first year of production rifle. Not only is it chambered in the lesser manufactured .22 Short, but it has the optional (and VERY hard to find) .22 short 10-round magazine.
Your rifle appears to be a great condition and all original. I am sorry I cannot shed any light on the “60” on the stock, I have never seen one with a number stamped in that location before.
Your pictures worked fine with the imgur links but I have embedded them here so it is easier for everyone else to view your great heirloom.
Best Regards,

OfflineI have had a Model 56 in the locker for 10 years. I bought it and a 1900 era Win pump in 22 Short from a guy my age (80). I sold the pump soon after but still have the M56.
The rifle has a Redfield peep sight and an unmarked aperture front. Short tube, abot 1/2″ dia. Lyman?
I bore scoped the barrel. Excellent condition and quality. Much better than my new 22s. I will shoot it and test for accuracy this week.
I was looking online to get a sense of the value and found this page.
The Serial is 11795 dated 27. Another mark on the bottom of the barrel is Circle B and 21″

OfflineHi Ganderite and welcome to the WACA Forum!
Thanks for your information, it is a new entry in the survey. According to the polishing room records maintained by Pauline Muerrle your rifle was made in 1927 which nicely corresponds with your “27 barrel date. You didn’t mention it but I assume your rifle is chambered for .22 Long Rifle (not .22 Short) based on the survey entries before and after yours.
For a good value estimation we would need to see a number of pictures, both close-up and full left and right sides. However, based on your description and barring any uncorrectable modifications, the Model 56 has been selling in the $600-$1000 range for the .22 LR and higher for the more scarce .22 Short.
The Lyman 17A front sight was a popular exchange for the original sight so the odds are that is what your front globe sight is however Redfield and others also made front sights of that same style and dimension.
The barrels are indeed good quality and very accurate, I am hoping you will follow-up with a range report after you test it.
Thanks again for posting the info!

OfflineI have not yet shot the rifle. But it is cleaned and ready to go.
I have 3 mags for it. 2 original 10 rounders and a new 5-shot I just bought on ebay.
The 10 rounders are stamped on the floor plate:
MADE IN U.S.A.
WINCHESTER
TRADE MARK
PAT. NOV. 25, 1919
I don’t know how to add pictures of rifle.

OfflineMy father recently passed and this was in his possession. It is a model 57 in 22 LongR, Serial 3142 with blued barrel, leather strap. Flip up rear sight and a swing peep sight marked as a Mossberg no 4. Stock is somewhat marred but has shine. The blueing (assuming) is gone and barrel has a brownish patina no rust. Winchester 5 rnd magazine. I’m not sure what condition grading would be based on my guess to be late 1920s or early 30s manufactured Era. Barrel not removed so a date isn’t known. Any insights would certainly be appreciated.
