Bert,That was why I purchased the rifle because I have never seen a Model 71 with no rear dovetail. Just thought it was different to say the least and wanted you to have it in your survey.

Bert,I just picked up serial 14761, deluxe 24″ rifle with standard rear sight-no bolt peep. This was sold by Cady Auctions. I hope this is a new one for the survey.
Thanks, Kevin
Hello Kevin,
I added it to the survey when I found it listed in the Cady auction. It was manufactured in January 1938.

Bert, I have SN 27133, a standard Model 71. I don’t recall whether I’ve given you photos and details for your survey. If not, I can send description and photos if you like.NP
I entered it in the survey in November 2020. It is a standard Model 71 rifle, manufactured in 1948.

Yes, I’ve had the 71 for many years, so I must have given you the information in 2020. I bought it because it was manufacture in 1948. I set out to get an example of every Winchester from 1948.
I need to dig through the safes and make certain that every appropriate Winchester I own gets into these surveys!

Hi Bert,
This one showed up today:
13998
Deluxe (special rifle)
Long Tang
24” barrel
Side of receiver NOT d&t for peep
Bolt machined for 98a but none appears to have ever been present
It showed up with a marbles rear barrel sight but now has the correct 22K.
Barrel address is type-1
Muzzle is in the white
No extra holes or alterations apparent
Checkering is of the finer type seen on pre-WWII
Im assuming this one was made 86 years ago this month?

Can you send me pictures of S/N 811 ? Does it have factory QD sling mounts ?

Bert, I have one more Model 71. Serial number 36513 De Luxe model. Has original sling, non original Williams peep sight. Manufacture 1953. Looking for a Lyman No. 56W or Lyman No. 66A peep sight. Know of anyone selling one? Help is appreciated. Michael
Based on the 1951 manufacture date, you need a Lyman No. 56W sight. Search for one on ebay… one will eventually show up for sale.
