Another one for you Bert,
Mine is a standard rifle, SN 12655 Factory peep mounted in bolt.
Erin
Erin,
Your Model 71 standard rifle was manufactured in June of 1937. At that time, the No. 98A Bolt Peep was the most common rear sight.

Tom,
By saying standard sights, do you mean it has the 22-K barrel mounted rear sight? The DOM was April of 1937.
Thanks,

I have my Great Uncles, serial # 888
Steve,
Which variation is it (e.g. Special or Standard rifle)? Is the barrel 24-inches long, or 20-inches? Does it have a bolt-peep rear sight, or is it mounted on the barrel?

My question is, how many of the 16,800 or so long tangs are “carbines” or 20 Short Rifles?
Currently, there is no way to answer that question. What I can tell you, is that of the (561) long tang Model 71s I have surveyed to this point, (65) of them are the 20-inch variation, which equates to 11.5%. That is opposed to the (49) 20-inch rifles that I have surveyed out of the (976) short tang Model 71s in the survey thus far (5%). In total, I have surveyed (114) 20-inch Model 71 rifles.
