I recently purchased a Winchester 1873, 1 of 1000 off of Gunbroker.com. I have purchased several rifles from this guy and have been very happy with my purchases so far. However, I am new to this game and probably wouldn’t know a fake if I saw it. Anyway, I was contacted by another gentleman that I have done business with informing me that it was a fake. I have no reason to doubt either of these people, so I need to do some due diligence of my own. The SN# is 143300. Does anyone have any information on this rifle or seller?
The rifle is positively a Fake 1 of 1000, and the seller is known to be someone to steer a wide path around. The vast majority of the “boxed” Winchesters he has listed and sold are not what they appear to be. Luckily, I have not paid for the rifle yet. Thank you guys for helping me out here.
Glad you made it over to the WACA forum before you shelled out that kind of cash for a fake. This seller has a long history of this sort of thing and I would never consider buying anything from him. I hope all your other purchases from SDOG panned out okay. In the future, before committing to any purchases (especially on-line purchases), it would be a good idea to hang out here often, ask a lot of questions, and get opinions from the experts. You can forward links to auction sites, photos, etc. of certain Winchesters and everyone here would be happy to steer you in the right direction and help keep you from making a costly mistake. There are a lot of dishonest sellers out there–buyer beware…

To bad somebody didn’t just leave that rifle alone and not try turning it into a 1 of 1000. It would probably be worth more if they hadn’t.

That’s incredibly bold-faced of the seller after the previous sale was cancelled due to it being a fake. Dad must be turning in his grave.
Dear old “Dad” had nothing to do with this. He is purely a BS fantasy concocted by the seller in his weaving of false sales pitches. Personally, I hope that he chokes on this one all the way to his demise.

Well put. Hope no fool and his money get parted by this one.
Agreed. So far, so good. No bids. Still has “A+” rating.
