Al,
According to the information I have, there were (80) of them traded from the SFPD to the Davis Company (Berkeley, CA) in November of 1983. The Davis Company then sold them all of to dealers/collectors. The serial number you mention is one of ( 18 ) that I am aware of. I have no idea what they are worth (how much of a premium over a standard M94 Carbine).

Rock Island Auction Co. supposedly sold one a couple of auctions back for $4,500. I have owned 4 of them and sold the lesser conditioned ones for $2,500 each. I currently have 2 remaining that are both 98%-99%. One of them has original paperwork certifying that it was sold by the S.F.P.D. I value them both at $4,000 – $4,500 each.

Learn something everyday! My father has a 1898 Colt Lightning Rifle marked SFPD in near mint condition.
I had no idea (never thought about it much) SFPD had ordered Winchesters also. The Colt Rifles are usually at a much higher premium than the standard medium framed Rifle. But they had they were numbered in there own serial range.
Majority of the SFPD guns Ive come across are usually always in High Condition. I imagine they sat around in the armory collecting dust for many years before being sold to the general public and saw little use.
Sincerely,
Maverick

Thank you both for your replies. I learn something new everyday. The 94 I’m looking at is being sold by Merz.

Your help is much appreciated.

Check the serial number. To be one of the 80 that the S.F.P.D. bought, it needs to be in the 1070xxx – 1080xxx serial number range. There are a couple of these floating around that apparently were confiscated guns that the S.F.P.D. commandeered and put into inventory. They have significantly less value.

Hi Bert,
I recently purchased the attached S.F.P.D. marked 94 carbine. Do you have this one in your survey?

I remember when those were sold. They came from SFPD to Davis Company in Sacramento. They were lined up against the wall, $100 each, your choice. Saddle ring carbines, pre-64s, and post 64s. They were crudely marked S.F.P.D on the top of the barrel. If you did not know they were authentic you would think the markings were fraudulent. I bought six of them. They also sold Remington Model 11 riot guns obtained from SFPD. The guns were used by Civil Defense during WW2 to guard the beaches.

DeerHunter,
Very nice carbine. I saw that one on GB when it was for sale.

Thanks Al. I had to put up a fight for it in the end and paid a little more than I hoped, but where am I going to find another and in that condition? However when I contacted the seller after the auction, he was actually a bit dissappointed that it didn’t go for more, since he had nearly $5,200.00 (with buyer’s premium) into it when he bought it over a year ago from Amoskeag Auctions.
