And another new addition!  Thanks.  I typically look at his auctions but had not done so yet.

Here is another for your survey. Winchester model 1892 caliber 38wcf; rifle crescent butt; oct barrel; serial number3856; sporting rear plus lyman 103 tang and rocky front sight . 24 inch oct barrel

Did you purchase that one from Poulin just last month?  Definitely a NICE looking rifle.  Can I please get a photo of the caliber stamp and barrel address stamp?

In the order from above. Pardon the missing screws, had to pull some tang sights. Oh, what we will do for an esteemed ’92 surveyor.

Thanks Bill.  That 25-20 SRC is a real POS!!

Description is quite the creative writing exercise.

Mike

Mike,

You’re correct. When they listed the first couple of pages a few days ago, they described a couple 2 nd generation, Colt M-1873 peacemaker revolvers, as made in 1874, 1875, and even 1871, as the first patent date of application, on the left side of the receiver is most commonly found, as most of us are well aware of. After a few emails, and proven descriptions they changed their listings, and put down that they were made accordingly in the second gen. date of mfg.

I myself, by no means would ever be accused of being a good writer, or anything even close to that, but this group of individuals at this auction house, could surely use some help. IMO!  I’ve suggested to them on more than one occasion, how to reference the WACA forum, for the date of mfg. tool, so easily accessible here, but they don’t seem to want to do that. Like you stated on another thread post, that it can be a benefit to the more knowledgeable collector.

Hello Keith,

Thanks so much for the info on your rifle.  Are there dashes before and after each line of the barrel address?  Is there a small set screw in the right side of the front sight base?  Does the rear sight have the ridge elevator without the thumb slide?

yes rifle has lines on both ends of address lines (2). No set screw. Front sight is a dovetail with brass center blade. Rear sight unfortunately is not original and has been replaced. This is per the seller I bought from.

Alright fellow collectors.  I need 164 more Model 1892 rifles to get to 22,000 samples.  I was hoping to get there by the end of 2025 so we have TODAY to do it.  Have you been thinking “I need to send my images to Michael someday”  Great!  Go do it.

Happy Holidays from snowy and cold Lake Michigan.  Thanks to all who have helped make this project successful.  I can’t do it without a whole lot of “we did it” together.

Michael,

I just bought 1892 serial number 277385. I don’t know if it’ll be useful for your survey other than just as a number in the list because it is currently, and will be allowed to continue, masquerading as a model 53 in 25-20. It’s still in the mail so I only have a couple auction pics. It does look to have type 2 tang markings.

Nathan
