Came across this 61 in the recent Carol Watson auction. I didn’t see the rifle the info is from the catalog description
ser.235773, stamped S/L/LR,24′ round barrel, grooved receiver,WP proof, shotgun steel butt plate. Described as excellent condition with bright bore, sold for $850 (plus sales tax and buyers premium 0f 18%, DROS, and shipping if necessary}

Are you certain of that 5 digit SN? The round barrel Shot Only version of the 61 was not around in 1936 which corresponds to 16832.

Michael,Sorry about that, the gun isn’t in the greatest of condition. I did a pencil rubbing of both serials, what I saw as a 1 is actually a 4.
Correct serial number is 46832

Hello Andy,
That makes more sense! What you have is a Routledge bore version of the Model 61. The last 13.5 inches of the bore are counter-bored to that dimension. The receiver top should be matted, no rear sight on the barrel, and a bead front sight. It may be difficult to see but is there a “W” between the serial numbers and the trigger guard? I have included a small portion of my survey sheet to show your rifle(light yellow shading) and how it fits into the other rifles that I have found.
