I have a semi deluxe 1890 chambered in 22 WRF with a couple stamps on the face of the receiver (below the barrel and slide bar) that I’m unfamiliar with.
My other 22 WRF 1890s have the caliber stamped in that location along with a triangle (with a symbol inside) and the number 21 but I haven’t seen one with a “Y”?? Or the number “10”. And another mark below the “Y” that I can’t really make out.
Any insight as to what any of these stamps mean?
Attached is a poorly drawn reference of the symbols I’m seeing.
And one of the overall rifle:
“WRF” = Winchester Rim Fire
The “21” & “10” are likely assembly numbers.
The “I” inside the triangle, if I recall correctly is an inspectors mark.
I don’t recall what the odd shaped Y is supposed to mean and uncertain what you mean by the “?” in a circle. If these are under the barrel, they may indicate the type of steel used to make the barrel.
How about some pictures of the markings? Where they’re located may also help to determine their meaning.
Jeffery Abendshein maybe able to tell us more, as I believe he knows quite a bit about these type markings.
Sincerely,
Maverick
