Would be interested in your opinions of the book Winchester Model 94, A Century of Craftsmanship by Robert Renneberg ?

For a “new”  94/64 collector is this a good reference? Mostly I am interested in knowing if more up to date material in book format is available? I see the 2nd edition was made in 2009 so already six years old.

Any electronic books worth purchasing that can honestly be recommended? I travel a lot and books are heavy, where as I always am stuck with my work laptop.

Thanks

Vern

In my opinion, this is the best 1894/94 reference available. It covers a large amount of material in great detail. There are really good pictures to show different variations of all the different individual components of this model. He covers the other siblings, M55 and M64 as well. I like his style of writing as its entertaining and enjoyable to read, unlike some technical books out there. As with any research book, there’s always a few discoveries that come to light after books are published, but overall its excellent information.

Another good point is this book is still available and priced right, unlike many other Winchester books that are near impossible to find at a reasonable price anymore. Its well worth the money and a must for any ’94 collector. Keep hanging around this forum and you will see Bob posting on occasion providing some insight on our discussions.

As for electronic reference, I don’t know of any books, but as a WACA member the old Collector issues are all available on this site so you can go back 20+ years and read back issues. That’s an almost endless endeavor.

BTW – Welcome to the Forum, hope you are enjoying it.

Buy it, and as a new collector don’t leave home without it.

Great book, well done, can’t wait for 3rd Edition!

Sincerely,

Maverick

P.S. I believe it was recently discovered that the 5 barrel set on the inside cover page is fake or had been assembled and portrayed by the then owner as original. Other than that I think everything else is well suited. Bob is actually a member of the forum and is a good source of input from time to time.

Hello,

Buy the book.  Carefully cut all the pages out and take them to Kinko’s and get it scanned so you can load it into your computer.   If it saves you one mistake in buying a gun it is well worth the expense.

Wink Just make sure the copyright police aren’t looking for you. Or Bob for that matter!

Sincerely,

Maverick
