Personalty I like books. However, I understand the expense and effort involved in doing a print run. In the case of the Model 1892 I feel sure it would sell well as so many guys have one or more in their collections. A lot of collectors tend to be middle aged and older and are more comfortable with a physical book.
Perhaps it could be a combination of both with the website having large blocks of serial numbers or information which would be less interesting data analysis that could be left out of the book. The website could be used to publish up dates to the various chapters on an annual or bi-annual basis perhaps and also a point where new information could be entered into a survey by collectors?
Anyway, whatever format is chosen I am sure it will be well received.

BOTH!
I’d recommend that you just go ahead and do both. We just had record snowfall here where I live in Louisiana that lasted a week. Which for most of y’all doesn’t mean much, but seeing how we can go a year or two without snowfall whatsoever. It was kind of a big deal. Imagine you lived in a place where there are no snow plows, salt trucks, or really any state owned equipment to handle the situation.
It hasn’t snowed this much since 1983 when the Red River froze over! While I did not lose power for very long, I’m still without running water. That said, the electricity does go out and websites get hacked or people forget to pay their website service provider. A handheld physical copy of written word is hard to beat. And yes once you’ve written, it is what it is, but how many editions of the Winchester Book are there? Never stop learning and adding to it.
Either way you decide, go ahead and get it out there. Otherwise, Does it exist if its not written down in some form or fashion?
Sincerely,
Maverick

I agree with Maverick, BOTH! A website would be very handy to refer to.
There is a big gap in my library for the 1892 book. The Pirkle book is the only one I have that covers the 1892 a little, but not enough!
I like books, and I am not in the age gap that Alan mentions
Regardless of your decision, we all eagerly await your work!

Some time in the future!! It would be A LOT simpler to do these projects if they happened to be the only hobby/interest I had. Trying to squeeze it in between fly fishing, fly tying, bicycling, ranch work, hunting, traveling, caring for three houses ( painting and tile job at the ranch house), photography, and spending time with my wonderful wife causes numerous missed target dates for many things. I have a week of hog hunting coming up in the middle of the month so not many of the “other things” will be accomplished.
I do see the website as a favored option for the reason that I can put out information as it is compiled and distilled and then easily add to it as time allows.
