I ran across one of these with no head stamp. Supposed to be a Winchester experimental? 3-1/4″.
Do you have a picture of it? Do you know what the bullet weight is?
My first thought is that it could be a derivative of the Winchester 40 Express (40-110), which was a 3.25″ cartridge.

It could also be the 40-120 Winchester? What type of bullet does it have?
Here is a reference I found online.

Pictures and dimensions would do a lot of good to help make a determination.

Interesting! I wonder what rifle it was made for. The Single Shot rifles in 40 EX (40-110) were rifled for a non-patched and much lighter weight bullet that what appears to be loaded in the cartridge Chuck found. I have not found any record entry for a “40-120” in the Single Shot ledgers.

Maybe it is a 40-90 Sharps BN? They look just like this and are 3 1/4″. I have some but they have WRACO head stamps.
The 40-90 Sharps BN cartridge is not 3.25″ long (but the 40-90 Sharps Straight is).
This is the correct factory designation and length for the 40-90 B.N. cartridge.

Yes, it is full and even has the tan paper wrapped around each cartridge.
Tell your lovely wife & daughter that I get it when you croak ! Better yet, put a note on it with my name, phone number, and address!

True, but I have no reason to sell anything. I have never flown with ammo but I think all I need is an airline approved case? That in itself would cause me to jack up the price at least the cost of the extra bag. Then there’s hazmat fees, handling, taxes and so on. $$$$$

A case is not required if it is just an old box of ammo. It can be put in any piece of checked luggage as long as you declare it. Patience Grasshopper!

I’ve been patiently sitting on this box for a couple of years waiting for you to find me a highwall in this caliber.
Really… there were (743) high-walls made in the 40-90 Sharps Straight cartridge, and you want me to find you one of them?? I have had my hands on at least (6) of them in the past 15-years. Most of them were made with a 32-inch No. 4 octagon barrel.
