I’m interested in a Model 12 or 25 “Riot” size shotgun. I passed one up about 40 years ago. Now that I’m old, maybe I can treat myself. I have a C&R.Jack in PA
Jack,
If you check the listings on Gunbroker.com and Guns International.com, you should find several of them. Don’t rule out the best of the Winchester line… a Model 1897 Riot Gun.

Thanks. I’m just in the learning stage. The 1897 with the exposed hammer is even more interesting. Gun Broker seems like EBay unless you are lucky enough to see a “buy it now”. A different forum had someone offer me a lever rifle I was looking for and hoping something like that happens here.

I did an I’m considering bidding. What do you members think a fair price would be. I don’t ant to overpay.
This is being offered by a popular seller with a great reputation. So, you can certainly buy with confidence. The downside is other bidders are bidding with confidence, which means the bidding usually goes high.
This is not my wheelhouse but aren’t M25 riot guns quite uncommon? I would assume dramatically lower production than M12 riot guns, or even M1897 riot guns?
I think if I were on a tight budget, I think I would look for a non-refinished M12 riot gun.

Overpay he says? You almost always overpay on an auction. Beings that this shotgun is refinished, it most certainly not bring top dollar, and is not a good investment. BUT, M25 Riotguns are fairly scarce and it may go high. IMHO, buy a cheap M97 and have the bbl. professionally cut and re beaded. Just as good as a refinished gun. Big Larry
just looked….bidding on the refinished model 25 riot is up to $984……really……might have to sell mine…recently sold a real nice model 12 early 50s riot with original sling swivels and leather sling for $650….thought that was a fair price…..bought the 25 years ago because I thought it would fit my riot gun collection….more or less just an after thought…..just saw it and bought it…..$200 $250 something like that…..

And it’s probably not done yet.

The model 25 went for $1025. My max bid was $1000. I’ll keep looking and agree a model 12 might be less money.
Probably not. The M12 riot guns are very popular as are the M97’s. Best bet, buy a beater M12 and cut it down. Same effect. Big Larry

Like Big Larry said, you almost always overpay at an auction. And that’s what happened here.
The fact that gun values are based upon the selling price of other similar examples, each time someone over pays they make your gun more valuable. Not a bad deal .
