My Great Grandpa Graham’s 1897 shotgun became mine when I was in my mid 20’s, anyway, it’s a 30″ full choke non takedown 12 gauge.

Doesn’t have a spec of bluing left on it anywhere.  Serial number C119506.

I guess that makes this a “C” series?  The gun works fine, I used to hunt with it a little some 30 years ago.  It’ll be a hand me down to one of my son’s along with the several other family shotguns I managed to obtain.

Somewhere along the line I had come up with 1901 as the date, but I might be off on that assessment.

Thanks

Hello Mike,

Your old Model 1897 is a “C” series gun, and it was manufactured in December 1900.

Which style marking is on the slide bar (see the attached pictures bellow);

Mr. Bert,

The differences are subtle but after taking a few pictures and coming up here to my computer and looking carefully at your two choices, it’s definitely the Type 2.

Thanks for the info.

That is what I expected it would be.  There was an overlap of the two types though.
