I recently purchased a 1876 with a set trigger and the rare seven leaf express sights it has a 26 inch octagonal barrel. I stripped the rifle down for cleaning (it must not have been cleaned since it was born). . When cleaning the trigger mechanism I found the set trigger adjusting screw is broken flush with the upper and lower part of the trigger no way to remove it. also the smallest of the three flat springs is broken. Assembling the rifle, it works not in the set trigger mode but very sloppy, a lot of play in the trigger. The trigger parts are all in good condition sear, knockoff etc. I have searched the relevant gun repair sites, but unfortunately being in the UK no one accepts orders from the UK. Is there any chance anyone on this forum might have a working set trigger they would part with? I also need a good set of wood. Ron
On the Model 1876 the lower tang is integral with the receiver which is different than the 1873. It means that most likely the gunsmith will be working on a receiver that still has the barrel attached.
Since you are in the UK, you have additional difficulties finding someone to do the work.
Finding set trigger parts will be a problem these days. Buckingham’s Antique Winchesters used to carry them but Al died and I don’t know what happened to all his parts.
As mentioned previously, Mark Douglas at Wyoming armory may have some. http://www.wyomingarmory.com/
Winchester Bob https://winchesterbob.com/ has some set trigger parts listed on his website.

Surely you can find an English Master Gunsmith to repair a set trigger in the UK?
I would think it would be child’s play for a “Master” Gunsmith. Unless my idea of what a Master Gunsmith used to be capable of doing is now totally wrong.
Sincerely,
Maverick

If all the relevant engagement surfaces are in good shape I’m hopeful you can find someone nearby to replace the screw and make a new spring. Shouldn’t be much of a challenge for someone qualified to work on double rifles and fowling pieces.
