Renegade: My Routledge Bore has serial number 45138, and does not have the "w" on the bottom of the receiver. Some RBs did, and some not. I have two friends with Routledge Bore rifles, and an acquaintance nearby that owns two!

Ned Schwing’s volumes was the catalyst for Model 61 collectors.

Hello Dart:

Also in my collection is a .22 WMR smoothbore with MOD screw-on choke, a companion to the one shown in Schwing’s book. There are 3 or 4 of these floating around. This was not a cataloged item as they did not proceed beyond the prototype stage.

Merrill

Let’s compare numbers on the WMR Shot. All supposedly in the 319XXX series.

Rennegade , Are you going to share your info at some point ?

To all, What should one expect to pay for each of these smoothbore 61s?
I would like to have at least one but have no idea of value.

Thanks

Yes I plan on sharing my findings. At this point I am still waiting for some more input from some owners. The goal is to get as many as I can until the "well goes dry" so to speak. Rather than publish it weekly, I want to wait until I’m pretty sure I have received all that I reasonably might expect.

As for pricing, I have seen some go in 2012 at auctions for as low as the 5K range and some above 7K. Condition is everything. I am aware of 2 that are NIB.

Hello,

I have read Scchwing’s book and Have not come across any mention of the overall production percentage of caliber and barrel configurations data. Is anyone aware, or doing this sort of data collection?

I am not aware of any databases that focus on the number of, or percentage of, the caliber, barrel, or barrel inscriptions besides the research that I conducted on the Routledge Bore. It is possible to do the same thing for Winchester Counter-bore pre-war variations in the 50,000-52,000 range. Possible other earlier variations. A lot of the 61 records were lost. A voluntary approach thru a web site such as this may be the only way!!??

My sentiments exactly. You should take on Model 61 round barrel shorts, or Pre-war Winchester counter-bores. If we could get enough people to take on a variation we would split the work load. 🙂

To all,

I have decided to begin cataloging the caliber and barrel configurations of for the entire the Model 61 production run. While chewing off a small, certain unique style may be easier it ends up letting too much good and usefull data go past you in the hope of somebody else getting it. I may as well enter it while I have it on the computer screen.

Sooooo…. Open up the safes and please send me the serial number, caliber stamp information for the rifle and the barrel shape style. No photos are necessary for this, just a simple list will do. You can either PM me or send to my email at [email protected] Hopefully, this work will shed a tiny bit of light on the overall production percentages of the Model 61 and make a small compliment to the work done in Schwing’s book.

Wish me luck
Michael

Renegade,

I came across SN 40722 which is listed as Routledge Bored. As of this afternoon I have a total of 305 rifles in the survey and have hardly scratched the surface of auction catalogs!
