Here’s a link to 3 pics of a Mod 92 carbine at my LGS he has on consignment: https://photos.app.goo.gl/3q6uQxDQzt8BrFNH7
It’s in very nice condition considering wood fit and the barrel/mag tube have a very nice blue still on them. I remember the bluing discussions and the talk about receivers and other parts from these 1920’s-30’s guns wearing at different rates. Where your hand would rest on the upper tang (see pic) is worn, as is the receiver that’s mostly worn to silver. Remind me if this is pretty “normal” discrepancies in bluing wear? My worry is that the mag tube and barrel are too nice for that receiver wear but if they were redone, doesn’t look too recent.
I didn’t get better photos because I didn’t have my phone with me and had these sent to me after my visit…here’s another same year gun on GB: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1044259719 — receiver looks different, but again dissimilar wear, otherwise VERY similar.
Thanks gentlemen, this is what I was thinking, just wanted the confirmation…have learned a lot but I feel I need a double check from time to time.
He’s got it on consignment but not asking the moon. It felt normal to me too as I’d seen those disparities before, the barrel and tube look really nice but not a “new” kind of nice.
May throw out an offer, why the hell not.

Entirely normal, except on near mint (or refinished!) guns. Wouldn’t worry me in the least. And it’s your guarantee the gun hasn’t been refinished!
That’s a good point, thought of that actually…wouldn’t do one and not the other if at one point the whole gun needed it and someone decided to reblue!

Jeremy-
Looks like an honest gun and I like the cartridge. Didn’t know we had a LGS around here these days, at least one not intently focused on black guns. I suppose I need to get out more. Don’t worry, I won’t buy it out from under you. I’m broke until I get my tax refund….and I fired my accountant yesterday.

I’m going to try and get it, it’s in pretty nice shape. I’ll message you the shop, technically a gunsmith who does consignments too, not REALLY a LGS, but close enough. I try to throw him some business, he likes working on old guns and seems pretty competent, especially since we have a lack of good machinist-style smiths around here…at least that I’m aware of.

Good luck! Post some better pics, if you get it.
Well, she followed me home just now….I felt it was a nice buy.

Here’s one teaser pic for those of you who don’t like to click links!
A good, honest, un-messed with, carefully used & handled, gun, just the kind I like. I think maybe buttstock has been “cleaned-up” in some way, not sanded, but it seems too uniform to be the way time left it. Maybe a furniture cleaner used, wax, or something of the sort, but I could be wrong. That’s a very minor quibble, considering the extremely nice cond of the metal, & wood, too, no dents, gouges, etc.

I agree, it’s probably been “cleaned” in the lighter sense, but not screwed with too hard….it’s very uniform though and nicer looking in person I bet.
Bert, if you see this, do you have a more narrow DOM than the web site provides (1921-1928)? I have a s/n 935804 (same gun essentially), 60,000 prior to this one marked as 1924/5, but I don’t remember where I got those years.

Nicely done, Jeremy. I seem to recall a 38WCF around here that needs shooting. Get that old girl cleaned up and we’ll have a little fun. Last quarter 1929 DOM, best I can tell.
That’s 38WCF ammo in my siggy pic, BTW.

Well, a trip to Quail Creek sounds nice, followed by a lunch at 407 BBQ…let’s roll!
I’ll go knock the dust bunnies outta the barrel right now.

I’ll check my ammo supply. Don’t buy any of that Cowboy junk.

Jeremy-
It matters little whether it was a “good” or “great” buy, IMHO. You’ve established a relationship with a gunsmith and brick & mortar LGS and if you’re smart you’ll cultivate it. If you play your cards right the owner will let you know if he’s offered anything that may interest you. He’ll put a little extra effort into fixing your old guns when the time comes, or will tell you when he can’t do it right.
I’ll drop in and see him soon, I’ll even pick up that M70 Super Grade you are having repaired for me. 😉

Very true, I do think the bond building is important and I like to stop by there and shoot the shit for a few minutes every now and then…usually when I-35 is backed up and I go the back way home 🙂 He called me about this one and I was just slow getting by there, luckily it was still around. So you are right on all counts!
…swing by in the next couple of weeks if you can, they’re in the middle of moving out to their property…supposedly will have some invite-only private range area out there too (eventually), which would be nice for me.

Most likely the latter half of the year 1924. You can get the exact date from Pauline Muerrle.
