Bob,
That is a great example, the 1st 1of1000 on that ledger page is #31266 and it has in my opinion has very beautiful XX wood on it.
Just goes to show that there are a lot of things not always listed in the ledger, just because a collector thinks it should be.
Sincerely,
Maverick
How do you know it is Ser. #31266? Is it in the current RIA auction?
Coming from collecting classic sportscars over the years, I’ve always found it interesting that so much value is placed on the originality of Winchesters as opposed to restorations.
“CORRECTLY” restored classic Corvettes (such as the one below) for example are valued practically as much and sometimes even more than originals as long as restored using correct replacement and NOS parts and to NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) standards.
Winchester Model 1873 44-40 circa 1886

Because the Fall 2017 Lot 1028 Julia’s Auction listed it as such, the final price was $69,000.00.
