That is one desirable rifle! So the seller is waiting for an offer vs. saying what he would take for it?It has one of my favorite special order features – the fancy cheekpiece stock
That cheekpiece is gorgeous and my photos don’t do it justice. It has a shadow line that is carved masterfully. I found myself running my finger over that particular spot again and again, in awe of the craftsmanship. It also fit my cheek perfectly, although there may have been some bias created by seeing it before shouldering it!
The seller didn’t give a price on it but threw out estimate values on most other guns I was interested in that seemed reasonable.
It’s a sizable collection that I haven’t completely viewed. I visited him for several hours for the first round and I suspect it’ll take a few more days of visits to get through everything. Then we’ll negotiate on what I’m interested in.
He has some civil war rifles that he asked for my help in finding info and potential valuation on also.

Here is a nickeled 62b on one of mine. The gun letter 32 Cal, 26″ octagon barrel, nickeled, plain trigger and Folding peep sight. The other two guns with the Swiss butts are about 1000 serials apart.

Bob – are you thinking your 62B sight was originally nickeled? And if so, would Lyman have done that or Winchester?
The 62b was made by Winchester or made for them. They would have been nickeled by Winchester but I don’t know if was a standard practice to nickel them if going on a nickel gun or by request. My guess is by request.

I suspect the same. That if ordered Winchester would have nickel plated any sight or part for that matter. They regularly nickel plated shot shells and cartridges. Also on rare occasion nickel plated reloading tools.
All that said the only notes I have found doing research was regarding Gold Plating sights and not nickel. From the Model Room book, “Gold Plating Lyman Rear Sight Model 94 in 30 Caliber costs us .52 cents. We Charge to FRISCO $1.50”. Frisco being a reference to Winchester’s San Francisco Store. While this note was not specifically dated, I believe it was made in the 1910s.
Sincerely,
Maverick

JG –I’ll be waiting with anticipation on your deal. I hope you get this rifle. I’m also excited about the possibility that some of the seller’s other rifles end up coming your way as well. If they are anything like this rifle….
Thanks Steve!
He has an engraved model 61 rimfire I posted about in the rf section
An honest 1876 in 40-60 with what looks like special sights, but no letter on that one.
An 1886 deluxe that letters with 1/2 nickel that’s in nice shape but someone added some cold blue to the barrel 🤦🏻♂️
And an 1873 musket… that appears original and correct, but chambered in 32wcf – which I wasn’t aware was an option.
Those are the highlights of the first couple dozen I viewed.

That is intriguing. Maybe Bob can tell us about ’73 Muskets in .32 WCF as I can’t recall any I’ve seen.
That is rare could be one of. all of the muskets I have are 44 but I do have 1 in 38. Would be interested in getting the serial number for it.

Certainly caught my interest. The condition isn’t high enough to have been faked, and the seller has owned it for decades. And didn’t know much about it or try to promote it in any way as being uncommon.
