What are the correct barrel markings for an 1892 carbine? When did Winchester move the model number from the tang to the barrel?
I’m not sure, but maybe these two posts can help.

To answer your first question, the serial number is needed. Barrel markings changed on a semi frequent basis throughout the production run. Michael can pin down the specific style for the factory markings with the serial number.

Hello,
Post some pics of the rifle including the serial number and I will be happy to answer any questions. After +13 years of collecting this sort of data on more than 20,000 rifles I should be of use! Or end them to me at [email protected]
