That definitely isn’t the one he’s pictured with, he had several Winchesters and Colts. He had his original stolen from him by Sheriff Brady and almost got it back after he killed him in Lincoln. Also when he made his escape from Lincoln before his hanging, he shot Bob Olinger with a 10 gauge. The story of Billy from childhood to death is pretty interesting, he is even connected to The Cowboys from the Tombstone area.
It is an individual collection that was assembled over many decades.

Personally I find the provenance easier to believe than the price.
Mike
I find that provenance more creditable than all the others I’ve seen, and you have an actual 1st Model SRC as well. A lot better than then last one I saw being hawked that was a 3rd Model.
For that price though, you’d think they would have more provenance as to who wrote / signed the letter. Who is Capt. J.C. Lea? A history of how it went form Pat Garrett to this person and from that person to the present day owner would go a long ways. Might would go as far as $250,000.00 if you had all that information.
Sincerely,
Maverick
P.S. I guess somebody aught to tell the Billy the Kid Museum in Fort Sumner, New Mexico they got a fake rifle!
I’m guessing also the Lincoln Courthouse Museum also decided to get rid of their Billy the Kid 73 SRC & 10 Gauage shotgun used to kill Bob Olinger by Billy the Kid.
