Thanks so much.  Your father’s rifle has been added into my work.  That is a 1955 vintage rifle and interesting that it has a black plastic butt plate on it.  They are not consistently found until 1958 production but they do pop up occasionally before that.

Thanks Rick.  The muzzle should be cut flat as opposed to being crowned.

twobit, I’ve given you incorrect information on this rifle. It does indeed have a checkered steel butt plate and rounded crown.

Please start by providing us with the serial number, and a few pictures of the rifle.

Hi Gerry and Welcome to the WACA Forum!

As a WACA “guest” you will need to upload your photos to an external host site and then you can provide a link to them here.

Alternatively, you can email your photos to me and I can post them here for you.

Best Regards,

Send the photos to me at [email protected] and I will be happy to take a look at it and answer any questions that you might have.  Right now I can tell you that the rifle was manufactured during 1949 and based on the data in my research survey SN 131153 is identical to yours.

Thanks for posting the images of the rifle.  The photo of the muzzle clearly indicates that the rifle is a “Counter bore” variation of the Model 61.  It is actaully a shotgun vs a rifle.  SN 131153 sold in Dec at the Cady Auction for $3300.

Thank you Michael, I have read that these guns have been faked in the past. I reached out to the Center of the West Museum but was told information on my gun is not available.

The gun is beautiful and in what I have been told to be in 95-98%. To nice for my collection and will probably seek to sell to a serious collector.
