I hope I can add one. My father’s 61.
sn 223489,

round barrel, no crown
no “W”
no tang screws
grooved receiver
plastic plate
Thanks so much. Your father’s rifle has been added into my work. That is a 1955 vintage rifle and interesting that it has a black plastic butt plate on it. They are not consistently found until 1958 production but they do pop up occasionally before that.

twobit, I’ve given you incorrect information on this rifle. It does indeed have a checkered steel butt plate and rounded crown.

Thanks for checking. I have updated my spreadsheet with the corrections.

Thank you
Send the photos to me at [email protected] and I will be happy to take a look at it and answer any questions that you might have. Right now I can tell you that the rifle was manufactured during 1949 and based on the data in my research survey SN 131153 is identical to yours.

OfflineThanks for posting the images of the rifle. The photo of the muzzle clearly indicates that the rifle is a “Counter bore” variation of the Model 61. It is actaully a shotgun vs a rifle. SN 131153 sold in Dec at the Cady Auction for $3300.
