So, I was searching the net here a while back and came upon an article about a Winchester Store in Spirit Lake, IA. Interesting me, I started reading and that lead me to you bunch of out-of-control rowdy thugs. From there I joined and have enjoyed it immensely, what a vast assortment of knowledge we have here, just wish I could contribute. So, where this started, the Winchester Store in Spirit Lake, IA. I certainly plan to visit at least once, maybe once a year. Do I need to make an appointment for any visits or is the store sometimes just open? How much of a notice would you need? How deadly accurate would that timing need to be? Any other good information planning a visit?

Here is what the website says.
“Tours are by appointment only. A minimum of one hour is recommended for the tour, and while there is no cost to tour this museum, a free-will offering is appreciated. To schedule a tour, please contact the Kruses by submitting the form below”

it is really an interesting story how he had an idea and turns out there actually was a Winchester Hardware store in that town. He just dug in, secured the building, and breathed life into it again. Somewhere there is an article about it, I will see if I can track that back down.

Deg,
It’s questions being asked, that can not only refresh the mind, but it helps all of us to keep the life of the Forum going. Sometimes I think the forum can get a little slow, and by this post thread alone it has created some interesting comments and reminded us of an article of the past that was placed in the Collector magazine.

Well, I am happy anyway. I don’t really add a lot, and I ask a bunch of questions you all are scratching your head wondering “who let this guy sign up” but it has probably become one of, if not, my favorite sites.
Hi Dan,
Glad you joined the club! I was in your shoes 13+ years ago when I ran into Bert at the Oregon Arms Collectors show and he urged me to join. It was the best move I’ve ever made being a new inexperienced collector. I have learned so much since then and continue to do so everyday. I’m primarily a Winchester lever-gun collector (particularly the model 1894), but have recently ventured dabbling a bit into pre-64 model 70’s. Model 70’s can be a dangerous endeavor of if not extremely careful due to all the fakery and lack of verifiable records to confirm originality. The guys on this forum are very patient, respectful, and have a vast array of knowledge and eager to share. They’re not afraid to tell you the truth, even if unpleasant. I’ve avoided some costly mistakes due to their expert advice. Here’s a prime example/head-scratcher from just last week!
