Yep, that’s a nice one priced fairly. All you need for this would be a nice, original M75. Very hard rifle to find in correct configuration. Big Larry
Yes, I’m surprised no one’s bought it yet. My excuse: no 75 to put it on. After a “certain book” is published in the near future, both the scopes & rifles will be much more sought after.
That one is not too bad but as mentioned in the revised ad the rear mount is not a Winchester so not such a great deal after all…..
I bought a new-in-the-box Winchester 8X at the Cody show last week (for not much more), does not look like it was ever mounted and had all of the original paperwork instructions. Will post some pictures tomorrow and you will likely see it in a future book 😉 It is the nicest example I have ever seen (and I already have a few in the box).

I bought this a couple weeks back. Optics are clear. Need to swap out the front mount but I do have a few spares. Final cost with shipping & tax was just over $200. Exercising a little patience can often yield positive results.

Wow, good score!
I must have been asleep at the wheel for that one, good job!

Patience together with smarts. Dramatic illustration of the diff between ebay (where the vast majority of scopes, accessories, & parts are posted) & GB, where I (& obviously many others) rarely bother to search because the pickins’ are generally so slim. Same scope listed on ebay would have attracted far more interest & a higher price.

JWA, will I see you in KC this weekend?
No, unfortunately not, I am working in Europe for the next week or so.
Sorry I am going to miss it this year, I always enjoy the MVACA show.
The next show on my calendar is the OGCA show in September and then the Denton, TX TGCA show in October. I am also trying to do the Tulsa show in November but have not cleared it on my work calendar yet.
Hope to see you down the road sometime.

And here are a few more in-the-box Winchester scopes for comparison.
Holy Smoke, the motherload of Winchester scopes! Now I understand why they’re so scarce on ebay & the internet! Wouldn’t have thought there were that many boxed still to be found in the whole country!
I am not a hoarder, once research is complete and the books are all done I will turn some of them loose back onto the open market (aka the Winchester “catch and release” program). I am currently still mapping out the subtle differences in the packaging and labeling though. I don’t want to keep all of them because I am too tempted to slap them on a rifle.

I like that; “catch and release”. I’m getting better at “catching” but my “release” needs a little work. I still think I have to shoot them all and that certainly slows down the process.

Yep, the Winchester Catch and Release program gives me the exhilaration of the hunt, the thrill of the detailed research when in-hand and then the joy of turning it over to the next person to repeat the process. You should have seen the look of joy? on Bert’s face when he let go of that SS TD highwall to me.
Besides, I can’t afford them all.

Jeff… that is the first high-wall I have turned loose of in more than 20-years… and I already miss it On the flip-side, my wife was ecstatic that I sold the three Winchesters that I did not come home with. You owe me a very nice Model 1903

Good points, Jeff. One of my main goals in collecting is to learn about the models I’m interested in and thinning the herd now and then helps me explore. I have never had sellers’ remorse, my little orphans have all gone to good homes and we had fun during our time together.

A healthy & sane attitude, but not widespread among most collectors, many of whom seem to believe that somehow, someway, they CAN take it with them, & subscribe piously to the doctrine “he who dies with the most toys wins.” (Wins what, I’ve always wondered.) Witness the enormous collections continually coming up for auction. Witness, on the American Pickers show, the many, many, times the boys have picked private warehouses piled literally to the ceiling with collectables of all descriptions.
