Displays are nice, BUT, you are exposing your collection to thieves and the like.I never leave any of my real nice guns out……
Actually most of my .22’s aren’t worth that much, that could be why I’m focusing more on them these days. Come to think of it most of my centerfire guns aren’t especially pricey either. I think I’ll keep them out for another day or two.
Are you going to tell us about that eye candy in your post?

Mike, I had all the known 22 Winchesters in my collection until I sold my M1885 SS to JWA. All the rifles on the wall are either M69’s or M69-A’s, but they are all different. A Match and Target M69-A, with original slings, grooved and non grooved, a couple that are export marked, a JTSS, a M69-A stocked M69, different sights, chromies and non chromies. I do not display any revolvers or pistols. I keep all my high end guns in my Fort Knox safe. Big Larry
I have a 69A grooved receiver. Is this book still available/ I might consider buying a copy.
I was shooting a newer Savage LH .22, but my left eye went south, so now I’d have to shoot right-handed, and I decided to buy a vintage 22 bolt action. My dad had a Remington 514 (iirc) so I wasn’t so keen on one of them. A local gun shop had a Model 69 with a vintage Lyman scope side mounted on it, so I bought it. Then I started doing some research and ended up with a 69A.

And I am enjoying it VERY much, thanks again Larry!

Hi Ken,
The 69A is a great rifle.
Yes, there are still a few copies of the book available, you can click on the rimfirepublications.com link at the bottom of my signature on this post or go to the “Store” tab at the top of the page and use that link.
The book is about 450 pages dedicated solely to the Winchester Model 69/69A and weighs almost as much as your rifle.

Okay thanks. I did find that link at rimfirepublications
Yes, these are great. I put a receiver sight on mine and the hooded front sight, even though I was advised not to. My brother has a Model 72 that someone side mounted a scope onto, and we have two Model 77 Winchester’s, detachable magazine versions, his has the bolt hold open feature.
I’d love to get a Model 75 Sporter, but the 69A is fine.

Here take mine. It may be in another upcoming book. Very late rifle with bbl. mounted sight and hooded front. Big Larry
If that is serial number 79864 it could very well be a book-star in the future. Tom does take good photos 😉

Which attention will inflate the prices of all these guns, as they have for the 69s, for which I delayed too long. If interested in a 75, don’t procrastinate.
Wiser words never spoken but alas, the word on the next book has been out for a year and the prices on 75 Sporters have increased 50% in that time. That is why I am keeping the focus of book 3 a secret.

Ken, JWA’s 69 book is invaluable. They just don’t publish them like this anymore and a tremendous asset to any collectors library for technical knowledge and reading pleasure. A must have for any Winchester 69 collector and others.

Years ago, I collected the Springfield M1903. You could by nice, unsporterized rifles for $200. Then came Col. Brophy’s large and informative book.
After a couple years, the values of nice M03’s had risen to $2,000. Then to $4,000, and now, the skies the limit. I sold a few of my collection off for $10,000.
I am pretty sure that the good Cols. book, showing variations that no one had ever heard of, was responsible for a great upturn in values of the M1903 and variants.
Clark Campbell had a lot to do with with this upturn in values with his book, and Frank Mallory with the Springfield Newsletter series.
To be sure, JWA wrote a great book, and it may well elevate the M69 and M69-A to a higher class, as shooters and collectibles.
True, I have my share of M69’s, M69-A’s, M72’s, M72-A’s, M75’s, and the often overlooked M47’s. All are great little 22’s, just like their big brother the M52.
Big Larry, JWA fan.

Haven’t noticed an increase in value but have noticed an increase in interest in 75’s . I’ve been of the opinion for the few years I’ve been collecting them that the “popular priced” Winchester bolt guns were under appreciated. If I didn’t enjoy shooting my 75 Sporter so much I’d test the waters. Perhaps I’d better stash a few more away before the rest of the collecting world gets the word.

Then will be the time to “cash in.”
I’ve had several of my .22’s on display for over a week now, somehow “cash in” has never crossed my mind. My little collection has reached the point where I have very few guns I’m willing to sell but would welcome an opportunity to score another nice one, funds permitting.
