Just in case there is any question as to whether there are proof stamps out there available to the fakers, here’s an original that is drawing quite a bit of interest on EBAY:
I’d like to believe it’ll be bought by a collector of Winchester memorabilia rather than someone who will use it for fakery, but…

My impression of that stamp is its not a stamp used in the factory. Most all the tools used in the factory had markings on them to identify the engraver that made them so if they needed to be repaired they know who to return it to and they would mark what the tool is on the side so it could be identified while laying in a drawer or on a bench. Maybe be there is other marking on it but the seller didn’t show it but I think the seller would of since it would boost its price.

This is what I normally see with Winchester tools. These are the stamps for the caliber on the bottom of the 73 elevator

Yeah that fake Proof Stamp has been floating around for a few years now. Along with the fake stock cartouche stamp seen on M1 Carbines and the like.

I don’t believe there’s ANY cartouche stamp applicable to ’03 Springfields & Garands that hasn’t been faked. Can’t stop them from being trafficked in the faker’s underworld, but advertising them openly ought to be classified as mail fraud.
