I have a Winchester 1895 Carbine and the stock has been cut and a recoil pad added. It is also missing the upper hand guard. It looks like the original stock had a cressent butt plate as it is rounded and there was a graven piece added at the top. Research from the Cody museum only states that it started its life as a carbine. I would like to make it original but don”t know which butt plate or stock to use?

Mark, the standard carbine for the model 1895 had a butt plate of “modified shotgun” style similar to those of the 1894, etc. It was a slightly curved steel plate. The missing hand guard is a big problem, too. I strongly suspect trying to find an original stock set complete with top hand guard is a major effort and will cost beyond the value of the end product. Buckingham, I think it was, used to have good reproductions of the top hand guard, but he died many years ago now and I’ve not heard of his stock of hand guards resurfacing. Mark Douglas may have an idea for a correct butt stock, and hope he chimes in. Tim
Mark, no photo came through in either thread. I hope to attach a picture of an 1895 SRC butt plate. IF I succeed it will be a small miracle. It will be the middle of the three in the photo. Tim PS. Got an error, as picture is too large and I don’t know how to change it! Sorry.
