It was off the Don Groves table.

I’m not surprised it happens more. There are many times I’m wanting to ask about a gun on other tables and nobody is there. Dealers are out walking the show with no one to sit their table.

It goes on more than most would think. There are / have been reported “stolen guns” in the WACA Collector Magazine since its inception. I do wonder how often such guns get recovered.

Was it Don that had the Daisy gun stolen a few years back off his table?
I met Don in person at one show, and I really enjoyed speaking with him. After about twenty minutes of talking guns, he asked me to watch his table for awhile. I think he said he was going to use the men’s room, but he might have been looking for his wife as well. Anyway, while watching his tables for him, a number of people came by and asked questions about the guns that I could not answer. Finally after a rather lengthy absence he reappeared.

I didnt hear that it was three, just that it was one Henry, but I could be wrong. I also heard that it happened on a Friday, the day folks are setting up, after show hours. A bold move no doubt. Either way its a bad feeling to know it happens.

Don & Jan Grove had a Henry rifle stolen last year at the Tulsa show… if there were more than that recently stolen at the Tulsa show, Wanenmacher needs to get a noose on this real fast, or risk losing a fair number of vendors.

I was looking all over for my copy but that could explain why I can’t find it.

I just received my copy a couple days ago.
As for the rifles listed as stolen, the Don Grove rifle is the same one that’s been listed for quite a while, but the other three are newly listed. It seems to me this kind of thing is more likely being done by other vendors at a show. I assume the guns coming in and out of the show entrances are marked with colored stickers or tags and it would difficult to just walk out without someone noticing. On the other hand, various dealers and vendors are usually carrying guns back and forth between tables making deals or just showing them to friends. It wouldn’t be that hard to just walk up to an unattended table and pick one up, set it by your own table, and eventually slip it into an empty case. At the end of the day, it just goes out with the rest of your guns.
Of course, I would like to think all our gun show buddies are honest, good people that would never do such a thing. You just never know what kind of dishonest folks are trolling around these shows. Its really disturbing to think about it.

My copy showed up this morning, that is a little disturbing but I can understand how it can happen at a big show. I’ve been at Don’s table many times and he has multiple table on a end cap so you can’t watch all your tables at the same time and he has vertical racks which tend to hide people in the isle. All it takes is the table holder to be busy talking to a customer and now your not watching your tables.
Whenever I had multiple tables, I would have them in a line and I would sit at one end so I could see all the tables at once. I always have a partner so someone is always at the table and if I had to leave to goto the bathroom I would cover the table. I would never trust a neighbor to watch my table, they don’t have a vested interest in my guns. For the most part the people at shows are trust worthy but there is always a few that can’t resist the temptation.

Hi,
Here is an update on gun show crooks. I was talking to Ray Giles around 2 years ago about a $10,000 Winchester Henry box stolen off his table. He said there was a guy looking at the box and put it down on the display case. He also looked at other boxes and put them on top of the Henry box. He paid for everything but the Henry box and left. By the time Ray figured out what happened, the thief was gone.
