Tim, the graded condition is very subjective. No one can really answer that without holding the gun in their hands and then it is only that person’s opinion.
I looked at my Red Book and values are close to today’s market. You have to remember nice guns hold their value when lesser guns go down.
Hello all,
As others have mentioned the rifle is quite nice. The grade of wood is rarely noted in the Winchester production ledgers. Sight combination are more commonly found in the notations. I would rate the rifle was 80% condition based on the images and could easily see it selling in the + $8000 range. How much more is anybodies guess. I could also see the rifle being bought at auction and then listed on some dealers sites with $15,000 price tags on it.

Whether you are going to buy real estate, a collector car, art, Morgan Dollars or an old Winchester, before you spend your money the first thing you should do is look at something comparable. The list of 92 Winchester rifles in a checkered configuration, original and correct, with condition will be pretty short. I did a quick check this morning and still only found the one Jim Cauthen has with the replaced hammer for $28,500 and a Turnbull restoration for $32,500. Leroy does not have one, neither does Don Grove or Collectors Firearms – not that they don’t want one but this kind of inventory is hard to find. I also checked with a couple of other dealers I have know for decades and all I got were offers to buy the one I have. Just food for thought here – this is not like going to a good gun show and finding a nice 86, these 92’s are scarce.
