Chuck,Congrats on you’re model 17 book.
I just received my two volume set from Lou, Yesterday, and it’s amazing!
Very colorful and attractive, two volume set!
Just getting into it a little last night, and I’m enjoying the information, in it. Very well laid out, and planned.
Anthony
Anthony, have you looked at the Henry section? Lou was always going to do something more on the Henry rim fires. I know these books are being shipped from Montana so I expect mine to reach Ca. maybe in a few days?
I haven’t gone through the 1917 book but it is far superior than the other book. High quality and very in depth. A lot of pictures. These rifles fill 2 slots for me. It is a pre 64 Winchester and it is Military. The book shows the polishing room records and has the Springfield Research Service data. This shows where the rifles went. The data was first compiled by Franklin Mallory in the 1970’s. Unfortunately of the many hundreds listed, mine is not. But mine does show up in the Polishing Room records.

Chuck,
I hope that you received you’re books by now. Just returning from vacation, as I glanced at the .44 Henry section, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Very detailed as I just touched on it, and can’t wait to explore it some more.

Private Smith,
Out of curiosity, what made you order it? What are you’re main interests in the ammo cartridges? I can understand you’re statement, as far as enjoying it. Very historically written!

I got my Deluxe Edition Set in today. On another forum topic someone posted about USPS issues. Ann had called last Monday and said she was shipping to me the set Priority Mail and I should have it by Wednesday per the USPS estimated arrival date. Well only five days later my set came today.
Can’t wait to read it thoroughly.

Yeah, the Deluxe set’s we’re sold out when I put my order in also. Well worth it. IMO!
We talked about the Milbank Primer at great lengths in another post, (44-100), concerning the .44 wcf cartridge development, and in Vol. 1 in Lou’s book, on page 246, under #1, the .32 Short cartridge, in an early Stetson patent bullet, has the Milbank primer inserted into the tip of the bullet. Interesting.
The section on the .44 Henry Flatt is amazing information also!

My volumes arrived on Monday, the 17th. I started in on Vol. I, and it is engrossing. I skimmed the material initially on the .44 Henry and will go through that with a fine tooth comb. My one fear is what knowledge will fall out of my brain to make room for new knowledge! File space is limited. Tim

Hi Anthony, I mostly ordered it because of the reputation and assiduous research of the author, as well as an appreciation for old and “Obsolete” firearms, and their ammunition.

Tim, I can’t agree with you more. LOL! I need to do a reboot! LOL! It has so much more detailed facts, based off of actual statements, and excerpts from people like B. Tyler Henry, to many of the familiar names we’re accustomed to as collectors.

I understand. As Lou’s work is superb. The credits list is like a who’s who in the cartridge collector world!

Yes they did. I called and ordered mine the first day I saw it announced and before I posted about it on this Forum. My set is #24 of 25.

Yeah when you ask Lou a question and he tells you he hasn’t seen what your asking about in his 70 years of collecting. It usually makes you go hmm!
And usually based on his reaction from him telling you such a thing, you’ll know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
I thoroughly enjoy finding something and hearing him say he hasn’t seen something in 70 years of collecting but in which he is also interested in seeing.
But just goes to show, you never know what you find out there.
