I saw something posted in his behalf a couple of days ago on another forum, saying he was in ICU being monitored for what I took to be congestive heart failure, but, in any event, from extremely low blood pressure that eventually with the use of a drug elevated to a survivable level. Have not seen anything since and can’t find the post.

My friend says Mike was sent home.
Well, that’s some good news. I’m not a black powder shooter but I’ve always thought Venturino’s writing revealed a modest, enthusiastic, and collegial man who worked hard to learn new things and impart them to his readers. He would be a serious loss for all of us.

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting with him a time or two. His books and articles have been very helpful as we like many of the same guns. He had some pretty serious troubles a few years back, I hope he beats it again. He used to lurk here, may have even posted a time or two. One of our members knows him quite well, hopefully will pass along our well-wishes.

Shrapnel posted on another Forum of Mike’s passing, as he received the phone call last night.
As this is very unfortunate, and I’m sure hard for him to post, as he got pretty close with Mike over the years. He was lucky to be able to call Mike his friend.
RIP Mike. We all have benefited from your shared knowledge.

Any idea of his age? I assumed he was much younger than myself. I was equally shocked when the early & unexpected death of Skeeter Skelton, one of my favorite gunwriters at the time, was reported in Shooting Times.

Sad news indeed. Shrapnel has known Mike for many years and has lost a good friend. Like many here I learned a great bit from Mike and his articles were often entertaining as well as informative. Mike was just as genuine and helpful in person and always took the time to visit with his fans. We lost a good man.

Very sad news. Sad news like this has been coming my way too often.
The pace of such news will quicken the longer you hang on; untill your phone number book consists largely of names it’s not possible to call again.
Sounds like my phone “book”. Can’t make myself delete the names of folks I can’t call again.
