A while back We were having a discussion about the accuracy of factory letters. Here’s a couple with “omissions” or oversights. Both guns are 100% correct. ser#318961, They obviously neglected to print in the1/2 in front of oct. barrel and ser#335378 pistol grip , shotgun butt , rubberbut plate was overlooked.

Henry brings up a good point. I also have a rifle that has a discrepancy between the “yellow sheet” (records office look-up), and a factory letter. In my case, there is a misspelled word on the factory letter. It’s important because it lists the name of a western dealer who returned the rifle to Winchester.
Can one ask the Cody Firearms museum records team to issue a new letter to “fix the glitch?”

I call myself a collector as it sounds better than hoarder
Bill,
Yes you can have Cody double check the ledger and if they miss read it or did a typo they will redo the letter.

I had a 1873 letter that said it was shipped a year before it was received in the warehouse, a obvious typo. They sent me a new one.
On guns that don’t quite match the letter I have them send me a copy of the ledger page. Sometimes it is just missing ditto marks or it matches another gun in the same order. If I feel it was a warehouse mistake I will buy it and keep the ledger page with the letter until I sell it. It does take time to explain and has a negative affect on the sale if the buyer cannot tell original from not. You do limit the number of potential buyers.
Some of these letter discrepancies are not possible after examination of the gun and therefor not an issue. T/R
I am sorry but I am not understanding the first 4 pictures. The 1st shows a letter that appears to accurately describe the gun posted in picture #4. ???? I know I am a little dense some times but what am i missing there. I can clearly see that picture #5 shows a letter that does not match the gun shown in 6&7.
OK Tom , The first 4 pictures are of ser#335378, the letter fails to mention the pistol grip stock with the shotgun, plastic butt plate. Ser# 318961 has a 1/2 oct. barrel, the lettter says oct. barrel, I think they neglected to write in “1/2”, I’ve had a few guns this has been the case.

Oh. I see it now. Sorry, I didn’t notice the pistol grip.
