My friend has an engraved 1866 that came out of the Harold’s Club collection in Reno. It is an 8 panel high relief gun. He has a 4 page letter from Larry Wilson. He is trying to find any information on this gun or the collection. Sorry, I will have to get the serial number. He has had this gun for over 20 years. He has talked to Pauline Muerrle. Has anyone reviewed the records in Cody or know who may do so?
It depends on the serial number if Cody has records on it. Get me the serial number and I will check my records.

I don’t have anything on #46037.
But #46027 was a deluxe engraved and cased rifle presented to James J. Hill.
Sincerely,

Bob, this may be where he bought it? That was the auction where the collection was sold. Do you have a copy of the catalog page or the notes? He is trying to verify the engraver.
Maverick, that is interesting info. His gun is way beyond fancy. I wouldn’t doubt that is was a presentation gun too. Doug used to travel with Walt too. He probably has had this gun at Cody more than once.
Chuck,
I don’t have that catalog. Finding that info from Cody would be a real long shot. You would end up paying them $50 a hour to look and then you have to give them a limit of what you want to spend.

Here is the contact numbers for them. Contact the Cody Firearms office and talk with them and tell them what your looking for. They might give you some other places to look or what they might have. My experience with this kind of information your looking for was not be saved by Winchester. The only place it sometime showed up was in the ledger.

Chuck,
I may have a copy of the Butterfield’s May 1994 catalog.

The metal tag on the gun is marked 23. I saw the gun today and got to read the letter from Wilson. The sides have a lot of wear on the high relief areas. The wrist was cracked and fixed with a thin metal plate on each side. 2 of the C. Ulrich marks are stamped and one is engraved. The wood is marked VIII. Was gold washed and engraving everywhere. Who could do the research for him?
That is what is noted as the source for serial 46037.

I went through the entire catalog page by page… it is not listed in the May 1994 The only gun that comes close is Lot # 1957, a Model 1866 Carbine serial number 138430 that is gold plated & engraved.
What source are you referring to?

Bert,
I got a bunch of survey info that included different models from a collector when I started mine.

Bob,
I suspect that it was not accurately recorded by the fellow (collector) you are referring to. I have the actual May 1994 catalog (as well as several hundred more).

I have the Aug 1993 Butterfield catalog since I have a gun in it and found a 66 rifle s/n 107208 relief engraved gold trim and signed by C.F. Ulrich. It says it was possibly displayed at the Philadelphia Centennial of 1876 and was consecutive to 107209 engraved the same.

Bob and Bert. The 66 in question #46037 was in the Harold’s collection but some believe it may have been sold out the backdoor prior to the auction. So the fact that is not in the catalog may verify this belief. I wonder who worked for Butterfield & Butterfield during this time? Did Frank Malloy write a list of the guns in the Collection?
I found this online.
“In 1993, after The Fitzgerald Group had bought Harolds Club from the Summa Corporation, the collection was sold to the Butterfield & Butterfield auction house of San Francisco, and on May 3, 1994, the guns were auctioned off. “
There is a book about the collection.
