I’ve been doing a bit of research on Edwin Pugsley recently and learned that Pugsley DID work with Johnathan Edward Browning ( John Moses Browning’s lesser known brother) at Winchester just before he died on May 17, 1939. Interesting thing about Pugsley is that in addition to amassing an impressive collection of firearms that is now the basis of CFM’s collection he was apparently one of the company’s earliest historians. Another early Winchester historian appears to have been G R Watrous.
As promised, Dan Shuey’s article was very enlightening.

Pugsley wrote the epilogue found in Harold Williamson’s book, “Winchester – The Gun That Won The West.”
Yes, he tried to pass that task off to an underling (he was supposed to be retired) but he finally gave up and wrote it. It’s rumored he wrote most of another chapter as well. In the correspondence dealing with the book he was accused of it and he never responded, at least his reply apparently wasn’t in the file.
