Hi Guys,
I had a question on a rifle I was interested in and figure I would put the question of its value to the members here. The rifle in question is a Winchester 1886 take down in 38-56 with a good bore and in pretty decent shape. The serial number is 91479puts it in the era of black powder. I have only seen pictures of the rifle and from the pictures it looks decent. The price is high enough that I was tempted to make him an offer but I wanted to make a fair offer and not low ball it. So I figure I would ask the members here their thoughts.
Thanks in advance.
Rob
Without picture no one can give you a good estimate.

Rob,
That sling swivel on the butt is not factory original and hurts the collector value. The 38-56 WCF cartridge is not one of the sought after chamberings in the Model 1886. The rest of the gun is in typical worn condition. There is nothing about that rifle other than the Take Down features that adds any appeal to it. I have no idea what the seller is asking for it, but I would be very hesitant to offer anything > $2,100 for it.

Hi Bert,
Thanks for your evaluation I was thinking along those lines. The price is $3400 and I was thinking of offering something like $2500 or maybe less hence the low ball idea. I passed on it without an offer I appreciate you looking at it.
Incidentally, I recently started to reload for 38-56 with limited load data its not an easy load to work with.
Thanks,
Rob
