Looking forward to it and let me know if you need a badge to get in Friday. I should have one extra one in my packet. Sounds like it should be a full house at the new venue, so my fingers are crossed.

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning… I fly into Denver Thursday morning, will visit a few gunshops and enjoy a good lunch at Thai Basil on 18th in Denver, the make the trek to Greeley. My friend is already on the road with my display cases & rifles… I really love this show. JWA… your magazine will be waiting.
Boys, I’m sorry to say I’m going to have to miss the CGCA show this year. I am greatly disappointed, as I have been planning on going. I have hotel reservations and was making travel plans.
Some poor management of my schedule has me assigned to work (I’m a corporate pilot) Saturday and Sunday.
I blacked out the dates for Cody in my schedule so I will see you there!
I call myself a collector as it sounds better than hoarder
Great show. As always, excellent displays, quality guns everywhere and no China junk, beef jerky or candles! Buyers were there & active. I only had one table but I moved a pile of sights & parts. Even found a couple goodies during set up on Thursday, after that I couldn’t get away from the table. It was good to have JWA & Elliot stop by…we even went out to dinner and had a great meal and better conversation. Connected with a few others from this and other websites, good to put a face to a screen name. Overall, I think it will take time to get used to the new venue, parking is a bit of a challenge and local hotels are not plentiful and prices a bit high. I’ve booked my hotel for next year already (May 17-19). Ended up getting a room at Hawthorne Suites in Loveland , Co. (15 miles away) for $75. per night (half what I paid for Hampton Inn in Greeley). If you think you want to attend I recommend checking & booking soon. On to Cody… I’ll have three tables and can’t wait.

Willing to bet he brought some beautiful rifles. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill at Scott Tarbell’s show in Durant. Sounds like a great show.

I didn’t see the positive side of the show. I doubt that 2 out of 10 people walking the show, were off the street. Mostly dealers walking around, with some unhappy vendors that thought the show wasn’t advertised.
It wasn’t a bust, however, I did find a real rare windage sight and sold a model 92 and a pair of binoculars. Talking with Junior Stewart, Russ Day and Tom Adams, I was able to find more information on the 50-100-450. Brad Dunbar helped identify the sight and I was able to find out just how the 1886 was converted to have the action modified to accommodate the Lyman rear sight.
I saw electronic & regular billboards advertising the show all over Denver, there were also several billboards going up highway 25 to Lakewood and even around Greeley. Didn’t watch much TV so can’t speak to that aspect or radio since I listened to satellite radio driving around. Changing venues takes time to reconnect with the casual gun collecting crowd.
Arrived and set up Thursday afternoon. I sold quite a few items, including a nice Trapdoor Sporter and I also bought some stuff. I thought the venue was WAY better than Colo. Sprs and over a hundred miles closer for me. It was nice to visit with good friends. I agree with Ben, in that it may take a year or so, for the show to get on it’s feet and better advertising would be a good idea. We who have attended the show at the Merchandise Mart for so many years (27 for me) want the CGCA show to take off, right where it left off. Changing venues after so many years, will hurt any show, large or small. If this country lasts long enough, I think we could see a show in Greeley, every bit as good as Denver. I know the CGCA has had some horrendous obstacles to overcome and I commend them for trying there best to make us happy. We get grumpy in our old age.

I agree with Rick. I thoroughly enjoyed the show from Thursday afternoon to my typical last-minute shopping on Sunday. I guess if I was doing this to make money or selling smalls to make table rent, I may have been a little disappointed in the foot traffic from the outside but that’s not what I’m there for. I consider these shows more of a swap meet expectation and go there hoping to spend quality time with good friends, sell a few guns I’m tired of, and then go find the prize to take home.
There were a lot of guns moving around, and some with big price tags. I managed to accidently sell quite a few guns, counting one I brought for show and tell, another I took on trade that never made it home, as well as one that wasn’t even at the show. Hmmm, there must have been an imaginary blue light flashing by my table. Oh well, it made some room in the safes for something new.

Gary,
It was great seeing you and other WACA folks at the show, that made the trip worthwhile for me. Thanks again for parting with your unusual .22 and for hauling my ammo purchase home – I owe you!
Looking forward to seeing everyone again in Cody!
