This is Rick at Old West Reproductions. That is a tube rivet. They come in several different lengths. I use nickel plated and copper tube rivets, usually with a cap on the open end. Yours was set in a rivet press using a “splash” anvil. That creates the star pattern on the open end of the rivet. Saddle shops, boot repair or maybe a farm and ranch supply would be a good place to look. You can’t set them without a press, so best to locate a shop that has them and can set them for you.

Rick, this interesting to see. My grand father who was an old horse man up here in the NE called them harness rivets. He used to set them by hand he said. I still have a little jar of them…. Somewhere

OfflineI guess if you could hit it hard enough you could do it by hand?

Deg,
What you are looking for is a “version” of a Triglide slide for leather straps. When I say version, I can not find anything that comes close to the slide you need, as the new designs do not match the old style shown in your photo. Tandy, Weaver, nor any of the other saddlery or leather supply houses I deal with, have anything like this. The closest I could find is in nickel only and in 2″ only, nothing smaller. In my opinion, this looks more like something that would be found on a purse strap. I think I would try a hobby shop or a fabric store. Good luck!

OfflineI use a Harbor Freight arbor press for my knife handle rivets but no idea where to find a “splash” anvil. I’ve been getting lots of ads about leather rivets since a bit of rivet research, will take a look before I delete the next ones!

Tandy leather has everything you could want, all kinds of rivets and crimp tools.
I think we have a Tandy here in Tulsa, it’s been a year or two since I was in there – maybe I will take this strap in and let them analyze it and see if they can hook me up. Be nice if they have the buckles too.

what kind of rivet would this be called, and also, as long as I have your attention, what about that style of buckle? I need to replicate a strap like this one – unless someone has one or two to sell….
